Cyclist from the twin-city of Perm wons RedBullTrans-SiberianExtreme 2018
The annual ultra-marathon race – the Red Bull Trans-Siberian Extreme- covered Russia’s immense territory taking its route through Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Chita, Blagoveschensk, Khabarovsk and finishing in Vladivostok.
6 athletes from 6 countries – Russia, Denmark, Brazil, India and Germany – took part in the race, cycling across Russia along the Trans-Siberian route and covering the total distance of nearly 9100 kilometers.
The favorites of the race – Vladimir Gusev (Russia) and Pierre Bishoff (Germany, city of Duisburg , twinned to Perm) ) arrived in the evening of July 27, finishing together stage 2 of a prestigious Red Bull Trans-Siberian Extreme 2018, coming from Kazan and covering a distance of 963 kilometers. The next stage, Perm – Yekaterinburg, started on July 28.
The start of stage 3 in Sobornaya (Cathedral) Square of Perm was welcomed by a special support group representing activists of the twinned cities movement “Perm-Duisburg” who came to greet Pierre Bishoff. These were the students from School No 140 in Perm who made special coloured posters to support Pierre ; they talked to him to learn about the start and challenges of his carrier as a cyclist.
The race ended with the final 766- kilometer stage from Khabarovsk to Vladivostok. The athletes finished in the same order as in the general qualification list.
On August 18, 2018 Pierre Bishoff, a 33-year-old German cyclist from Duisburg, a twin-city of Perm, triumphantly won the race, improving showing a better result over his last year silver medal. Michael from Denmark arrived the second and Marcelo Florentino Soarez from Brazil – the third. Vladimir Gusev from Russia was not able to complete the race due to an old knee injury.
